Ingredients

  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 2 T salt
  • 2 c scalded milk
  • 2 c hot water
  • 2 T yeast
  • 8 c flour
  • 1/4 c shortening melted

Instructions

Combine sugar and salt in a large bowl. Pour scalded milk over sugar and salt, and then add 2c hot water. Mix in about 4c flour with yeast. Melt shortening and stir it in. Add flour until the dough can be kneaded. Knead about 10 minutes until smooth and satiny. Place in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise until double, about one hour.

Punch down, turn, and let rise about 30 minutes.

Divide into three parts. Shape each part into a loaf and place in greased loaf pans. Let rise again.

Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes, then at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.

  • pie crust
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 c cream
  • 2 tsp parmesan
  • 2 T sauteed mushrooms or crab meat
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch coriander

Instructions

Shape pie crust into tiny tarts in a muffin pan. Bake 5 minutes at 400 degrees.

Lower heat to 325 degrees. Fill each tart with about 1 T of the quiche mixture. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 5 large pears, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 4-1/2 teaspoons quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon minced fresh gingerroot
  • Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter

Preheat oven to 400°. In a large bowl, combine first nine ingredients. Let stand 15 minutes.

Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom crust; trim pastry even with edge. Sprinkle with pecans and brown sugar; fill with pear mixture. Dot with butter. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie; place over filling. Trim, seal and flute edges. Cut slits in pastry.

Bake 40-45 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cover edges with foil during the last 15 minutes to prevent overbrowning if necessary. Cool on a wire rack.

  • 1 T melted shortening

Sift together flour, baking powder, and soda.

Beat egg yolks, add buttermilk and shortening.

Stir in flour mixture without using beater. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into batter. Let it stand for 8 minutes before frying.

  • 2 lb asparagus
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/3 c Butter

Instructions

Wash asparagus. Snap off the lower parts. Steam for 7 minutes.

Drain well. Melt butter and saute bread crumbs for one minute. Pour this mixture over the tips of the asparagus.

  • 4 pork chops
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 2 T cornmeal
  • 2 T whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Mix cornmeal, flour, and spices.

Dip pork chops in milk, then coat with cornmeal mixture.

Cook in a shallow roasting pan at 425 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

  • 2 ¼ c sugar
  • 1 ½ c butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla
  • ¾ tsp almond extract
  • 3 ¾ c flour (can use up to 2 c whole wheat flour)
  • 2 ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 21 oz cherry pie filling

  • ⅔ c chopped pecans
  • ⅔ c oatmeal
  • 3 T brown sugar
  • 3 T butter
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs, vanilla, and almond extract. Add flour and baking powder and mix just until moistened.

Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Top with cherry filling, poking cherries gently down into the batter.

Combine all topping ingredients and sprinkle on top.

Bake 60-70 minutes (until toothpick comes out clean) at 350 degrees.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds red potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 12 ounces bacon, cooked until crisp and coarsely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded extra-sharp yellow Cheddar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions

Cut up and steam the potatoes.

Stir together the sour cream, mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, garlic powder and onion powder in a large bowl.

Add the potatoes and gently toss until coated. Gently fold in the bacon and cheese, reserving 1/4 cup of each for garnish. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle with the paprika, green onions and reserved bacon and cheese.

Cook hamburger and onion until brown.

Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 to 15 minutes.

Serve on buns.
